Day Seven 1508 total /miles Florence OF

Biffy needs to get out a thesource to find other new words to describe today’s ride. It was awesome, amazing, fabulous, breath taking…ok…words like that. Riding across the Columbia River and down the Oregon coast could not have been more amazing and beautiful and it was a perfect day with bright sun and blue skys.

The girls new that it would be a good day, as they left their hotel they were off to their first roadside oddity which was all of five minutes from the hotel. Biffy spotted it first and yelled to Sheri to stop, stop but poor Sheri couldn’t see it but pulled over anyway. Then above their heads they spotted the cutest little squire bridge!!! Really, it was a bridge built between trees across the road to help the little squirele be safe!!! Is that not the cutest thing in the whole world!!! Biffy tries to get Sheri to climb the tree and make Roadie cross the bridge but Sheri said no to that idea. Hey people in Davis California build toad tunnels……and Oregonians build squirrel bridges!!
Then it was off to the Lewis and Clark bridge which is a phenomenal site across the Columbia River. And this certainly is logging country. On the river the girls saw thousands and thousands of logs ready to be shipped around the world. And the smell of pine was abundant in the air!!
While the ride was incredible, Biffy did learn a valuable lesson…..if you have to sneeze and have your helmet on….put the face shield UP….or it is a messy situation……sneezing inside a face shield is a bad bad idea……..
The girls took a break in Sea Side Oregon in search of a building in the shape of a snow cone. Sea side is a charming little tourist town with lots of shops and a lovely beach. But nowhere could be found the snow once building. But the stop was not a total loss. Biff got a cup of coffee and shared an elephant ear with Sheri…..the restraunt claims to be the “Elephant ear capital of the world,” wowzer who knew…..now the girls can claim to have been in the Elephant ear capital….now that is something to be proud of.
Oh yea, we could not forget about little miss attention grabber, Roadie. She came to get coffee with us and many many people stopped and gave her attention, then the waiter from the Greek restaurant was caught feeding Roadie lamb samples from their gyro sandwiches.
Apparently, Roadie is mighty fond of lamb!!
Latter on in the ride, the girls stopped at the famous Tillamook Cheese factory…the actual place where that yummy cheese is made …but it is nowhere near as yummy as Wisconsin cheese. The factory was fun to see and it was a great place to have a wee bit of lunch…grilled cheese sandwiches of course!!!
T
They rode a while more down to Florence Oregon and stopped for the night. The hotel is right on a river with absolutely spectacular views and super duper nice staff. And hey, being part of the Best Western rewards program that is sponsored by Harley is a great deal…we have been getting cheap hotel rates and upgraded to suits!!! Not bad!!!
