Given the girls had such lovely accommodations, they decided to head out early. When Sheri took Roadie for her morning walk, Sheri came back to the room with a treat for Biffy – a Dutch Brothers coffee…YUMMMM!!! Now, that is a good wife.
The girls headed over to Denny’s for breakfast where they met a waitress with a rather sultry voice and attitude. The girls weren’t sure if they were ordering breakfast or if they were calling a porn phone line. The waitress was..hot….well her voice was oh so sexy…..She's too sexy for her Denny's uniform.
After filling their bellies, the girls packed up and were off again!! They had decided to see if they could get back to Woodland which meant they would be riding hard today. The ride started by a very twisty turvy ride through the redwoods. Biff thinks it was beautiful but isn’t quite sure as every time she looked away from the road she saw little shoulder on the road and rivers that were way, way, way down……..to avoid unintentionally getting any closer to the rivers Biff kept her eyes on the road!!
Finally, they arrived in Grants Pass had a snack, more Dutch Brothers coffee (drink of the Gods) and Roadie stretched her legs. Then it was to the last part of this year’s journey…..a ride down I-5.
At one point Sheri did try to point out to Biff the six deer that were on the side of the road. But apparently Biffy’s attention was distracted by a very sparkly bike on the other side of the road, it was glamorous and glistened in the sun. Yup, shinny things are much more important to Biff than deer that could coming running onto the freeway.
And about 6pm the girls rolled into their cul de sac…safe and sound and having covered 2101.9 miles!!!!
What a wonderful journey…..
Now it is time for haircuts and pedicures.

Day eight 1695 total miles – Crescent City CA
Pictures to come latter
Prior to leaving Florence, Biffy was thrilled to pieces to be back in Dutch Brothers land and of course had a wonderful latte. Although, Biff could not get the bike through the drive through lane so she had to stand in the drive through lane which made Sheri laugh hysterically.
And before leaving, Florence the girls got to see their first oddity of the day. Oh boy….it’s another Big Boy complete with parts of cars from the 50’s which all adorn a charming little diner.
A second day of cruising the Oregon coast. This is the most beautiful peaceful riding the girls have ever done!! Riding through the pines with views of the ocean on a clear day with blue skies, could there be anything more wonderful? As they cruised through the seaside towns they grew to understand that the ocean must impact residents minds and encourage the display of unusual “art’” The girls saws tigers on top of stores, many, many craved bears And at one stop they even saw gigantic dinosaur!!!
Roadie had her own excitement too. At the dinosaur stop Roadie met Sammie a miniature dachshund. The two doggies became fast friends and were jumping and bouncing all around. Roadie understood what it felt like to be a giant dinosaur because in comparison to Sammie Roadie was a giant being twice his size!!!! And size matters you know.
While the girls didn’t ride a lot of miles, they were on the bikes for long hours and by the time they got back into California to Crescent City, they were tired and decided it would be a good place to rest for the evening.
Yet, finding a place was more challenging…. Apparently Crescent City is a dog prejudice city!! Most of the hotels would not take a dog…..Biff suspects that wasn’t just a hotel policy, Biff expects they were warned about Roadie’s “outlaw” reputation and the hotels feared having such a scoundrel stay at their hotel…..But this all meant the girls ended up in a dump….it was cheap and had clean sheets but that was all we can say about it….

Day Seven 1508 total /miles Florence OF

Biffy needs to get out a thesource to find other new words to describe today’s ride. It was awesome, amazing, fabulous, breath taking…ok…words like that. Riding across the Columbia River and down the Oregon coast could not have been more amazing and beautiful and it was a perfect day with bright sun and blue skys.
The girls new that it would be a good day, as they left their hotel they were off to their first roadside oddity which was all of five minutes from the hotel. Biffy spotted it first and yelled to Sheri to stop, stop but poor Sheri couldn’t see it but pulled over anyway. Then above their heads they spotted the cutest little squire bridge!!! Really, it was a bridge built between trees across the road to help the little squirele be safe!!! Is that not the cutest thing in the whole world!!! Biffy tries to get Sheri to climb the tree and make Roadie cross the bridge but Sheri said no to that idea. Hey people in Davis California build toad tunnels……and Oregonians build squirrel bridges!!

Then it was off to the Lewis and Clark bridge which is a phenomenal site across the Columbia River. And this certainly is logging country. On the river the girls saw thousands and thousands of logs ready to be shipped around the world. And the smell of pine was abundant in the air!!

While the ride was incredible, Biffy did learn a valuable lesson…..if you have to sneeze and have your helmet on….put the face shield UP….or it is a messy situation……sneezing inside a face shield is a bad bad idea……..

The girls took a break in Sea Side Oregon in search of a building in the shape of a snow cone. Sea side is a charming little tourist town with lots of shops and a lovely beach. But nowhere could be found the snow once building. But the stop was not a total loss. Biff got a cup of coffee and shared an elephant ear with Sheri…..the restraunt claims to be the “Elephant ear capital of the world,” wowzer who knew…..now the girls can claim to have been in the Elephant ear capital….now that is something to be proud of.
Oh yea, we could not forget about little miss attention grabber, Roadie. She came to get coffee with us and many many people stopped and gave her attention, then the waiter from the Greek restaurant was caught feeding Roadie lamb samples from their gyro sandwiches.
Latter on in the ride, the girls stopped at the famous Tillamook Cheese factory…the actual place where that yummy cheese is made …but it is nowhere near as yummy as Wisconsin cheese. The factory was fun to see and it was a great place to have a wee bit of lunch…grilled cheese sandwiches of course!!!
T
T
They rode a while more down to Florence Oregon and stopped for the night. The hotel is right on a river with absolutely spectacular views and super duper nice staff. And hey, being part of the Best Western rewards program that is sponsored by Harley is a great deal…we have been getting cheap hotel rates and upgraded to suits!!! Not bad!!!

Day Six 1284miles total – Kelso WA
Wowzer, wowzer…ok the mountains were mighty pretty but this riding through mighty hilly streets is….well…challenging!!! After three days of trying to maneuver a thousand pound bike with full packs up and down huge hills, narrow streets and lots of construction both girls hands are SORE!!!!These hills are a million times worse than anything in San Francisco and Biff tried making it even more challenging by note quite using that friction zone perfectly …she only killed it once through, and Sheri well she needed to make it more challenging too…she kept trying to start in 2nd gear!!!! What was that about!!!!!
The girl’s first stop was at Harley dealership in Fife WA. Interesting these WA state dealership not only have cool bikes and related stuff they also have coffee bars!!!! The sales people will sell you a nifty shirt and make you a yummy latte!! Ya, these pacific north westerns know their coffee and don’t go far without it. And Roadie decided she needed to keep up with the fashion trends of Pacific Northwest and she bought her very own fleece vest, complete with Harley Davidson written on it. So now Roadie is a fashionistia, as everyone in the northwest wears fleece and Birkenstocks with socks. Roadie was a bit miffed that they do not make Birkenstocks for dogs….
Then the girls were off in search of their first oddity of the day. They cruised into Tacoma in search of a huge latte cup tavern….but it was never to be found. And after maneuvering up and down hills they girls gave up but magically they did see a large red piano on top of a roof of a building!!!!
Off to the next dealership….well sort of……the girls spent oh an hour or so looking for the Pullayup dealership, up and down more f#*king hills. Man Bachman (the girl’s mechanic) better be ready to replace brakes and clutches after this trip. But where, oh where was this dealership. Finally, the girls pulled off at a drive through coffee stand with “Barista Babes,” hmmmm why do we not have those in CA…..While pulled over Sheri called the dealership, oh they closed and have combined stores with the dealership in Fife….you know the one where the girls already were!!
Back on the hiway they went, all the way down to Chehalis WA for a little lunch at the local Red Robin. And what to their wondering eyes did they see, the biggest most impressive roadside oddity of all times….Sheri dad!! Lester Kolb and his main squeeze Shirley were there in the parking lot in their fifth wheel waiting to greet the girls. Not only did the girls dine with Mr Kolb, also joining them were Sheri’s friends Leonard and Mary who live in Chehalis. Leonard did point out that Les was not just a roadside oddity … Les was a “roadside attitude.” LOL. Leonard and Mary also brought along friends who ere visiting them and their friends are from Woodland!!! What is the likihood of all these Californians all to be in Chehalis WA at the same time!!!
As they dined the girls whined about the disappointing roadside oddity finding today. Leonard and Mary saved the day and explained that in town there were very large painted chickens and a large egg!! Oh boy the girls could hardly contain their excitement….So off they went to see these six foot tall chickens and the “worlds largest egg!!!!” Now that was an oddity not to be missed!!! It was even worth it to have almost fallen into the center of the earth when Biff road over a huge…..hole in the road!!
That was so exciting the girls couldn’t ride much more and pulled over for an evening rest stop in Kelso WA.
Day Five about 1100miles total - Lynnwood WA
One last morning in Canada!! We made it to the lovely metropolitan downtown, rode through Stanley Park and to view the Kings Bridge. Then we cruised the gay district/the West End and then out through Granville. It was a lovely, lovely day in Canada and seeing the mountains surrounding the city was fabulous!!!
Then it was one last wave goodbye to our host city and it was off to the boarder. Whew….the boarder, an hour and a half in line….with the sun beating down on our bikes and us in full gear and moving forward inch by inch by inch…..But we chatted with fellow travelers and made the best of it. And the border crossing is very pretty with the Peace Arch, imagine how many people have seen that arch. One area of flowers was laid out in an American flag!
Then it was time to search for an oddity or two!!! We pulled off the hi-way and found the most interesting office building in the entire world. Bet at this office people never get down...and if they do, they just make the crane "pick them up" LOL'....It was made out a construction crane!! Cool!!!! Gosh darn it people are creative!!!

At lunch time and we stopped in a Bellingham WA a town that is famous for their spring tulip festival. We made a quick stop at a HD dealership, then off to downtown for some real coffee and a bit of lunch. Our super star Roadie was the star of the lunch hour. She got lots of attention and lots of treats, then she was getting tired so Biff picked her up and put her in her lap as Biff ate her lunch…Hmmmm… a dog in a lap while eating lunch….Yup in seconds the superstar got and downed half of Biff sandwich….HALF of the sandwich…..Roadie is only an eight pound dog but boy can she eat…and eat fast.

At the next dealership, Miss Roadie got hers…oh yea she did!! She met a HUGE, HUGE seven month old mastiff dog who almost ate Roadie in one bite!!! Now that was Roadies very own roadside oddity!!
The ride through this part of Washington was spectacular!!! It was a warm clear day….highly unusual for Washington. And even more unusual both girls had the privilege of seeing both Mt. Baker and Mt. Rainer. How can you not be amazed at such views!! They were majestic snow covered mountains lummn in the sky……awesome, awesome!! There is no better way to see the country than on the bikes!!

Day 4 No Mile....Just Enjoying Vancouver
Today the girls traded in their two wheels for buses, subways and cabs as they took the day to enjoy the city of Vancouver. People in the hotel told the girls they must not miss the largest mall in the world and they said it was a quick bus and subway ride to the mall.
Now, those of you who know Biff, know she has a fear of riding BART (Bay Area Rapid Transit) and is convinced each time she rides it she will magically end up in Fresno….(no…BART does not go to Fresno….just Biff irrational fear). So the thought of taking a Canadian version of BART brought up visions of Fresno or even more horrifying…ending up in Walesa Alaska…….But Biff was reassured that Super Sheri would successfully guide her to the mall and she did.
The mall…..it was a mall, big, lots of stores, beautiful dolphin water fountain and beautiful flowers all over. Biff was mighty excited when she found the loveliest leather bag and even more exciting was the green tea crème puff…yummmm
Of course the girls did have to make a stop at the local Harley Dealership. It was pretty cool comlete with a min muesuem with lots of old bikes and great sales!! Whoopie!!!

Oh and don’t worry even though the girls were having a bikeless day they did find “oddities.”
Right next to the girl’s hotel was a huge park where the PNE festival was occurring. This was one of Canada’s largest festivals and it was the 100th anniversary. This was the perfect place for the girls to spend the afternoon and evening…and of course find some oddities!!!

The girls were privilege to see real live lumberjacks chop and saw wood, jugglers, ballerinas, amazing and castles and even “super” dogs doing all kinds of tricks and running agility courses. The dogs were the best part of the day.
OH and who knew, Canadians are as much in love with deep fried crap as are Americans…..yummmm funnel cakes and deep fried snickers bars……..

Day 3 CANADA!!
Yup we made it!! And now our young puppy is a multi country traveler!!
We did have a bit of a rough morning. Biffy was unable to get a decent cup of coffee and had to suffer with hotel sludge that passed, well sort of passed, as coffee. And when Biff doesn’t have good coffee you know that is a precursor to more bad things……
The girls knew there would be tons of traffic going into Seattle so they waited until 9:30am to start their daily adventure. And oh boy did thye have an adventure. Their first stop was to be at the Harley Dealership which was all of nine miles from their hotel. But the girls nearly didn’t make it those nine miles. Once they got off the freeway there was a bit of confusion of how to get to the Dealership and as the girls were trying to figure that out , Sheri was narrowly cut off by a blue car which forcing her to make a very sudden and unexpected stop in the middle of the road. Biff who was following close behind had no time to do a quick stop and little road to maneuver around Sheri. Biff had to use her best “lean and weave” skills and speed up to narrowly……..and that means maybe with a whole quarter inch of clearance…..past Sheri and her bike. Biffy’s front peg did clip Sheri’s saddle bag and it left a starch and took off a chunk of paint but the most important thing is both girls and Roadie are all ok. While the girls are mighty close, they have decided never, ever again should their bikes be so close…never ever….Whew…what a way to start a morning.
After their visit to the boring Harley Dealership…that they risked their lives to stop at, the girls got back on the freeway. They tried to avoid the worst traffic but they did hit lots of it in Seattle. So, it turned out to be a mighty tough ride through the Emerald City and that just wasn’t a lot of fun..especially after the near miss experience.
And this was an oddity not to be missed. It was a real live space ship complete with a blue transporter beam!! Cool!! And it was right in the middle of a park. Of course, at the park Roadie got a The girls wonder if parents threaten to have their children transported to an alien planet if they are bad!!
Next, the girls, were off for Canada. It was an easy ride as they cruised the freeway. As they came upon the boarder they saw the beautiful Peace Arch and welcome signs to Canada. After that they found their hotel and were dog tired.......

Day Two 713total miles/ 410 today
What is the bestest ever way to start a Sunday morning?........Wake up with the wife, pack up the bikes grab some scrumptious Dutch brothers coffee, turn on NPR and listen to “Wait Wait Don’t Tell Me” and ride through the Oregon Mountains….Yup, that makes a mighty perfect Sunday.

Biffy, loves her Dutch Brothers coffee and in Medoford they met a bubbly young girl named Paige who prepared the perfect coffee for the road. The weather was beautiful and sunny. As the girl twisted and turned up and down the mountains they took in the views of the beautiful evergreen and with pines smell. Myrtle River was just gorgeous.
Today the girls got to see two oddities. In Grants Pass they met a very large Paul Bunyan statue. And he was hanging out at the Cowboy Corral Tavern. Now what do you get when you cross Paul Bunyan with cowboys……A big guy in flannel who lassoes trees…

A while later on their journey they pulled off in Sutherlin Oregon. And oh what a stop it was!!! There was a 24 hour Dutch Brothers!!! Can you believe it…..DB 24 hours a day…could life be any better!!!! And at this DB they met yet another charming young woman named Kailee. If the future of the world is left in this young women’s hands…all will be good.
And this stopped the girls met “Mary Jane” at a rather interesting shop across
the way from DB. Now this was not your ordinary shop. On top its roof were huge psychedelic mushrooms!! The girls certainly saw many interesting visions at this shop…or were they hallucinations………
Latter on the girls surprised some friends in Chehalis Wa and then had a
weeeeee bit of traffic. These Washingtonians have interesting driving habits. Fast, slow, fast slow…….just couldn’t keep a consistent speed. But thankfully these biker girls are quite skilled in using the bikes “friction zone” so of course they were able to get to navigate
Washington’s traffic challenges..easily!!!
On to Canada tomorrow!!!

2010 Trip DAY ONE 303 miles - Medford OR
Woohooo…the girls are off and riding!!! They have left California and crossed the border into the lovely state of Oregon. Thankfully, they did not cross the Arizona boarder…they would have made them go back home.

Once the girls got into Oregon they stopped for the day in Medford but before they checked into the hotel they made one more oddity stop. Yup, oddity #3 was one huge black crow! This was a true oddity….in the parking lot of a hardware store stood a twenty foot tall black crow!!!! Now who would have wanted to have such a thing and who would have taken the time to build it…….Yet it stands proud in Medford Or.
This year, the girls are being accompanied by a little four legged doggie named Roadie. She is all of eight pounds and has her own specially designed motorcycle seat right behind Sheri. And today, Roadie became a true motorcyclist!!! She may seem sweet and innocent but this bow wow is a rough and tough OUTLAW BIKER DOG!!! Biffy and Sheri stopped in a park for a rest stop and that Roadie hopped out of her seat and pranced around the park acting like she was king of the forest!!! And of course our tough biker dog absolutely ignored, those signs that said “No Dogs in Park.” And if breaking that rule was not enough…..she is a stole away in the girl’s hotel room!!! And as the ride went on, all of a sudden Sheri notice roadie had changed her appearance….the usually clean and pristine puppy was now covered in biker oil!!! Yea she looks tough now!!!That four legged one is a rebel.
This year, the girls are planning their ride by going from roadside oddity to roadside oddity. And the girls started off the ride by visiting an oddity all of a mile from their house!!!! Yes, Woodland Ca actually has a travel destination or maybe just wacky people who did very strange things to their home. The made the outside of their home into a 1950’s dinner and gas station complete with a giant “Big Boy” in red and white and holding a hamburger that adorns their roof. Big Boy is hot...
Before the girls hit the hiway they stopped at Biff's favorite coffee shop – Dutch Brothers of course and got some yummy coffee to drink along the way.
Then vroom, vroom and they flew up I-5 for a couple hours before they stopped at oddity #2!! In Redding they saw the beautiful giant glass sundial. The structure is stunning and is in a beautiful park with a river. They stood in awe for awhile and just enjoyed the sceenery. Then they hit the road again.
It was a beautiful day for a ride. The sun was out and the air stayed warm. And how can the girls not wonder at the beauty of the land as they roared through the pines of Shasta national forest. They saw the beautiful green lake and the snow covered Mt Shasta. It was amazing views.
Their fellow drivers on the other hand were not quite as beautiful. Biff thinks it is a really bad idea when big huge semi trucks decide to share the lane with a motorcyclist. And those gull darn semis are so fricking load, so much more obnoxious than those darn Harley riders. Biff was particularly annoyed by the semi that wanted to get a little closer to her…in her lane…and the worst part of it was that the semi was so loud Biff cold not hear her audio book!!! she is trying to hear The Girl with The Dragon Tatoo. How dare a semi interupt her listening...
Oh yea, we can’t forget the lovely dinner they had at Black Bear Dinner. Sheri almost had to fight for Biffy as this charming waiter was mighty sweet on the Big bad Biker Babe…Biffy….Oooo lala…..a road romance…..was averted..
